Tallow-Goats Milk Soap
Let’s talk about our Tallow-goats milk, we call it our Heritage Bar or our Traditional Farmhouse Luxury. Contains Vitamins A,D and K from pasture-raised tallow and the deep proteins in goats milk. Ancestral, Bio-available, creamy and protective. The reason for that is, let’s talk a bit of history, before commercial beauty factories invented synthetic detergents in the mid-20th century, soap-making relied entirely on local agricultural byproducts.
– The tallow tradition. For thousands of years, traditional cultures from ancient Roman households to homesteaders across the UK and Americas – rendered beef and mutton fat (tallow) to make stable deploy conditioning soap bars. Because it was long lasting and did not go rancid easily, it was a staple for cold, wind-chapped northern climates.
– The Goat’s Milk Remedy. Cleopatra is famously recorded as bathing in fresh milk to preserve her skin, but rural European farming communities specifically used goat’s milk to wash infants and adults suffering from raw, irritated skin flare-ups. Water was replaced entirely with vitamin-dense milk during the soap mixing process to produce a uniquely gentle bar.
Some facts:
1. Tallow is “Bio-identical” to your skin’s barrier. Dry skin occurs when your outermost lipid layer is depleted, allowing moisture to escape. Grass-fed beef tallow is biologically similar to human sebum. It is packed with oleic, palmitic and stearic fatty acids, which absorb seamlessly into human skin cells rather than just sitting on top of them. Tallow provides a concentrated dose of fat-soluble Vitamins A, |D, E and K. These vitamins trigger cell regeneration, calm irritation and protect dry skin from cracking or weeping.
2. Goat’s Milk prevents “Soap stripping” and Hydrates. Most commercial supermarket soaps rely on harsh surfactants like Sodium Lauril Sulfate(SLS), which strip away protective skin lipids. Goat’s milk does the exact opposite: – Natural Caprylic and Fatty Acids: Goat’s milk contains high levels of short-chain fatty acids that keep the soap’s natural pH incredibly close to the human skin’s optimal range (around 5.5). This prevents the tight, dry “squeaky clean” feeling. -Gentle Lactic Acid Exfoliation: It naturally contains lactic acid, and alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA). Instead of scrubbing raw skin, lactic acid micro-dissolves the dead, flaky bonds holding dry skin together, revealing soft skin underneath without causing inflammation.
3. The Power of “Unscented”:
When a soap bar is labeled unscented, it means it contains absolutely no added essential oils or synthetic perfume chemicals. Fragrances are the number one trigger for contact dermatitis, eczema flares and burning on dry skin. Leaving the bar unscented ensures you are only applying the pure hypoallergenic lipids of the milk and fat directly to compromised skin.
Why do we add Ground Oats?
Oats transform the texture of the soap and change how it interacts with dry skin during washing:
- Forms a Physical Moisture Shield: Oats naturally contain polysaccharides (complex sugars) and lipids (fats). When mixed into a soap lather, these elements create a temporary, ultra-fine physical barrier that helps slow down Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL) – meaning less moisture evaporates from your skin while washing.
- Calms Sensation via Avenanthramides: Oats are the exclusive plant source of a group of unique antioxidants called avenanthramides. When applied to the skin, these compounds are physically soothing to the touch, making the soap ideal for cooling down the feeling of a tight, itchy complexion.
- Acts as a Buffering Agent: Raw skin can easily be thrown off balance by highly alkaline products. Oats naturally act as a buffering mechanism, helping to keep the washing process closer to the skin’s normal, healthy pH levels.
- Micro-Texture for Roughness: Finely ground oats add a very soft, colloidal slip to the bar. This provides a micro-scrubbing effect that gently lifts away dry flakes without creating micro-tears in fragile skin.
And Why the Magic Nettle Powder?
Nettle leaf (Urtica dioica) acts as a concentrated botanical nutritional boost.
- A Mineral-Rich Infusion: Nettle is one of nature’s most vitamin-dense wild plants, loaded with chlorophyll, iron, silica, magnesium and sulfur. Adding the powder directly into the fat base allows these topical trace minerals to sash over the skin barrier during cleansing.
- Natural Astringent and Clarifying Action: Nettle contains natural plant phenols and tannins, which act as a mild, gentle astringent. For individuals who have dry skin but still experience occasional breakouts or clogged pores, nettle helps clarify the skin surface without drying it out.
- Antioxidant Support against the Elements: The high concentration of free-radical fighting antioxidants in nettle leaf helps protect the outer skin layers from environmental stressors like wind, cold weather and urban pollution.
- Natural Color and Herbal Visuals: On a functional level for soap making, nettle powder gives the bar a beauriful, earth-toned green gue and a comforting, rustic look entirely from nature – completely eliminating the need for synthetic colorants or chemical dyes.
When you combine all four elements, the tallow and goat’s milk provide the heavy-duty lipid replacement to feed dry skin, the oats coat and lock in the moisture while soothing tension and the nettle powder delivers a deep clarifying mineral wash. It creates a highly functional, entirely natural soap bar tailored perfectly for skin that needs maximum care.
